Faces of the People

A special presentation by the Herberger Theater Center’s Arts Education & Outreach Department.

Join us for a FREE 45-minute presentation on Faces of the People. This lecture and video presentation will focus on how Indian artists present themselves in paint, stone, beads & ceramics as a way to record their history, religion, customs; phases of American Indian art from untrained to graduate level; Pueblo, Navajo, Apache, Sonoran Desert, Northwest Coast/Arctic and post-modern.

The Heard Museum, founded in 1929, was one of the Phoenix area’s first cultural attractions. The museum has grown to be one of the world’s finest destinations for learning about American Indian arts and cultures.

Queen Margaret of Anjou has been one of the fiercest and most  flirtatious female characters Shakespeare wrote into his plays.   Authors continue to express their own take on this quirky queen as she leads men into battle, dabbles in curses, and speaks her mind.  Spend a delightful and laugh filled lunch with Margaret in all her Queenly glory: from the battlefield where she mocks her own lovers, to the confessional where she (shall we say almost!) repents for thinking ill of her husband.  You can’t help but root for this lusty lady!

FREE Community & Education Program - Folkloric Dance

A special presentation by the Herberger Theater Center’s Arts Education & Outreach Department.
Take a journey through the Middle East and learn about the Rhythms, Dance and culture from various countries such as Kuwait, Iraq and Egypt. Explore what these dances represent culturally, their purpose as well as how they have created and impacted the evolution of modern Raks Sharqi Dancers (Belly Dancers) along with the difference between cafe dancers and the professional industry Raks Sharqi Dancers.

Presented by Ava Fleming

Ava Fleming is a performer, choreographer and dance instructor. She is the winner of “Belly Dancer of the Universe,” Champion, People’s Choice and Miss Congeniality.

                                          Interactive Chair Yoga Class
                      
A special presentation by the Herberger Theater Center’s 
                            Arts Education & Outreach Department.

Join Sumr Soudi Breez of Release Thru Breath Yoga for an educational and interactive chair yoga class.  Learn more about how chair yoga is done and the many benefits it offers. During this program you will experience various stretches for the whole body to allow movement and circulation while seated.  You will also work on enhancing the mental aspect by incorporating brain movements along with sounds to enhance the connection between body, mind and spirit.  Some of the many benefits include stress reduction, improved balance and improved concentration and circulation.  This class is for ALL levels with no experience necessary, great for wheelchairs too!

 Presented by Sumr Soudi Breez 
Sumr has more than 25 years of experience in yoga.
She is a certified Kundalini Yoga Teacher by Yogi Bhajan’s teaching
and has been teaching in the Phoenix area for over 20 years.

Are you an artist interested in showing your work at our Art Gallery?  Enter our Call to Artists Prospectus.  Our Art Gallery is a self-funded exhibition program seeking to promote contemporary art by artists throughout Arizona.  Work is selected using a blind jurying process and postmark deadline is April 2.
